Every form of art is usually believed to be something that is associated with peace. But there are some situations where art becomes a cause for dismay. This is what the trailer of Prasad Oak’s musical cum political drama Chandramukhi, which takes place in the 1980s, seems to convey.

The film, based on the bestselling novel by Vishwas Patil of the same name, revolves around politician Daulatrao Deshmane (Addinath Kothare). He comes across a tamasha artist Chandramukhi aka Chandra (Amruta Khanvilkar). Despite being a leader, Daulatrao has a great interest in poetry.

Art becomes a common ground for the youths and they gradually fall in love. But Chandramukhi gets a shock when she realizes that Daulatrao is married to Damayanti (Mrunmayee Deshpande).

The trailer has a nice mix of romance, drama and politics. The story of an extra-marital affair might not be a novel one but the period setting and the political angle piques your interest. Ajay-Atul’s music and background score also make an impact.

The casting of Khanvilkar, Kothare and Deshpande appears apt. The film also stars Mohan Agashe as a cunning senior politician.

Produced by Planet Marathi and Gold Ratio Films and distributed by Sunshine Studios, Chandramukhi will be released in theatres on 29 April.
