Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s blockbuster Gangubai Kathiawadi will be available on Netflix from 26 April in its original language, Hindi, and Telugu. Starring Alia Bhatt, the film was released earlier this year and earned over Rs100 crore nett at the Indian box office.
Speaking about the film’s digital premiere, Bhansali said in a statement, “Gangubai Kathiawadi is a very special film for me and we are humbled by the phenomenal response it has received globally. While the film has encouraged audiences to come back to the theatres, I am elated that the film will now reach an even wider audience within India and around the world with Netflix.”

Produced by Bhansali Productions and Jayantilal Gada’s Pen Movies, the period film is based on the book Mafia Queens Of Mumbai by authors S Hussain Zaidi and Jane Borges. It tells the story of Gangubai, played by Alia, who is forced into the flesh trade and how she rises up the ranks to become the madam of a brothel.
