Atanu Bose’s upcoming Uttam Kumar biopic Achena Uttam will be released in theatres on 24 June.
Actor Saswata Chatterjee, who will be essaying the matinee idol, has posted photos from the recently held release date announcement event on Instagram.
The multi-starrer, which will bring much more than Uttam Kumar’s public persona and film career to the screen, also stars Rituparna Sengupta as Suchitra Sen, Ditipriya Roy as Sabitri Chatterjee and Priyanshu Chatterjee as Satyajit Ray.
Achena Uttam will feature newcomer actor Tirtharaj Basu as the young Uttam Kumar while actress Srabanti Chatterjee will be seen as his wife Gouri Devi.
“Playing difficult characters is definitely challenging but playing the Mahanayak is not only difficult, but one can’t also prepare himself for such roles as no preparation is enough for these kinds of roles,” the actor told The Times of India, an English newspaper.
Chatterjee played a character based on another legend, Ritwick Ghatak, in Kamaleswar Mukherjee’s Meghe Dhaka Tara (2013). “It was one of the toughest roles. This time also it will be difficult, but I am confident people will get to see an unknown Mahanayak,” added the artiste.
