The song ‘Rabb Da Roop’ from the film features music by Jay K, lyrics by Happy Raikoti and vocals by Harbhajan Mann. The song is typical of the ballads sung by the Dhadis, who perform with the folk instruments of Punjab. The lyrics signify the position and stature of a mother, which is akin to that of God. The template of the song lends a universality to the lyrics which is apt for the theme.
We see the bond that Dutta, the matriarch, shares with her children, sharing playful moments and being affectionate while taking care of them. She prays to God for blessings to be showered upon her children always. The song shows the two sons growing up and Gippy Grewal’s character becoming a farmer, working alongside his mother in the fields.
As a working woman, Dutta is seen driving a tractor, taking care of her family and tending to her grown-up sons. Towards the end of the song, however, there seems to be a rift between Grewal’s character and his mother, as we see her walking away angrily from him.
Directed by Baljit Singh Deo and written by Rana Ranbir, Maa also stars Gurpreet Ghuggi, Babbal Rai, Prince Kanwaljit Singh, Vadda Grewal and Raghveer Boli.
