Release of Anek, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, postponed to 27 May

Produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and director Anubhav Sinha's Benaras Mediaworks, the action thriller will now clear the path for the Ranveer Singh-starrer Jayeshbhai Jordaar.

Ayushmann Khurrana’s next film Anek (2022), which has reunited him with his Article 15 (2019) director Anubhav Sinha, will be released on 27 May.

The action thriller, which was slated to be released on 13 May, would have gone up against the Ranveer Singh-starrer Jayeshbhai Jordaar (2022). The film, which was shot in the Northeast, features Khurrana as a character named Joshua.

The new poster — which displays the new release date — shows Khurrana in action mode on the battlefield with the tagline ‘Jeetega Kaun? Hindustan [Who will win? India]’.

Jayeshbhai Jordaar producer Aditya Chopra and Yash Raj Films’ CEO Akshaye Widhani had discussed the potential clash with Anek’s producers Bhushan Kumar and Anubhav Sinha and together, they averted the situation.

Widhani stated, “Producers Bhushan Kumar and Anubhav Sinha were very gracious and have shifted the release of Anek to 27 May. With this move, both Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Anek will receive their fair share of the audiences’ attention. As a token of gesture, the trailer of Anek will now be attached to Jayeshbhai Jordaar, making it the first non-YRF film trailer to be attached to a YRF film.”

T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar added, “I believe that the film industry is one big family and with that we should always be open to accommodating the best interests of the films we are churning out. Both Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Anek are very promising films and we are also excited to have the Anek trailer attached to Jayeshbhai Jordaar.”

Director-producer Anubhav Sinha added, “A lot of hard work and planning goes into the making of a film and by that principle it deserves undivided attention. We were happy to shift the release of Anek by a few days so that audiences can now enjoy both films in a spaced-out manner.”
