In the trailer for the Hoichoi web-series Srikanto, characters from Saratchandra Chattopadhyay’s eponymous novel explore the alleys of passionate romance in a modern setting.

Starring Rishav Basu and Sohini Sarkar, the musical retelling of the classic novel, directed by Sani Ghose Ray, is replete with elements of nostalgia, lust and betrayal.

Sitting on a serene seashore, Rajlokkhi (Sarkar) confesses to Srikanto (Basu) that she did not take time to recognize her teenage admirer after so many years, though the latter was immersed in recollections of her past and failed to recognize her when she turned into a mature woman.

Despite knowing that she is older than him, Srikanto was unable to hold back his passion for Rajlokkhi as a teenager and was always left awestruck by her aura.

As destiny conspires to set up another meeting after many years, their love for each other is rekindled. But while engaging in passionate intimacy, Rajlokkhi hides much from her present, and the deception leads Srikanto to substance abuse.

The visuals eventually reveal that Srikanto cannot accept that Rajlokkhi works as a escort, but at the same time he can't stay away from her. The trailer ends with a twist, when Rajlokkhi proposes a fresh start for their relationship, Abhaya (Madhumita Sarcar) makes her entry in the plot, hinting towards a complex triangle.

Sarkar appears to be a good fit in her sensuous character, but Basu comes across as amateurish. The trailer does not promise a refreshing take on the classic novel and seems to derive inspiration from Anurag Kashyap's Dev.D (2009).

Srikanto will be streamed on Hoichoi from 14 April. Check out the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch the web-series.
