Writer-actor Shivkumar Subrahmanyam died of cancer last night in Mumbai. The 52-year-old theatre veteran, who was married to actress Divya Jagdale, was known for penning the screenplays of Parinda (1989) and Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2006) for which he won two Filmfare awards.
The cause of death of the artiste, who was last seen in the Netflix film Meenakshi Sundareshwar (2021), was revealed later in the day to be cancer. According to one of Shiv's theatre colleagues, the disease was discovered at a late stage, leaving him no chance of fighting back. Shiv’s son Jahaan died in February just before his 16th birthday.
Shiv, who also wrote the screenplays for 1942: A Love Story (1994), Arjun Pandit (1999) and Chameli (2003), also acted in films and on television.

Shiv liked Shaw and I liked Brecht and we often got into pretty violent arguments about that. Most people thought that these guys are never going to talk to each other in their lives but that was the beauty and grace of those days . Raat gaee baat gaee. What a lovely ,gentle guy. https://t.co/6D9eDQjUOs
