The upcoming Raavan Leela (Bhavai) starring Pratik Gandhi is set in a remote village where a troupe arrives to stage the Ram Leela play.

Gandhi is the enthusiastic Rajaram Joshi, a local who wishes to be cast in the play as Ram, especially when he sees the beautiful Aindrita Ray, who plays Sita.

With no prior acting experience, Rajaram gets cast as Raavan instead. But that does not stop him from forming a friendship with Ray’s character.

As the two come closer, outside factors are disturbed with the closeness of Raavan and Sita, though they are fictional versions on stage.

The colour grading and cinematography of the film is resplendent, while Gandhi looks a natural as the reluctant Raavan who eases into his role. The last scene in the trailer, when Rajaram questions the actor who plays Ram about the disparity in their reputations, is intriguing.

Written and directed by Hardik Gajjar, Raavan Leela is the first big starring role on the big screen in Hindi cinema for Gandhi after his breakthrough with the web-series Scam 1992 (2020).

Besides Gandhi and Ray, the film features Ankur Bhatia, Abhimanyu Singh, Rajesh Sharma, Ankur Vikal, Rajendra Gupta, Gopal Singh, Flora Saini, Anil Rastogi, Krishna Bisht and Bhagyashree Mote.

Presented by Dr Jayantilal Gada and produced by Dhaval Gada, Aksshay Gada, Parth Gajjar and Richa Amod Sachan, Raavan Leela is due to be released on 1 October in theatres.
