The Academy Award-winning duo of lyricist Gulzar and composer AR Rahman will team up again for producer Sandeep Singh's upcoming biopic on the former Sahara group chairman, Subrata Roy.

The two had last worked together on the Shaad Ali film, OK Jaanu (2017).

Expressing joy at the collaboration, Rahman said, "Gulzar saheb's soulful lyrics are extremely inspiring for a musician and I hope I can do justice to the lyrics and the story. I am looking forward to this collaboration."

The lyricist replied, "It will be wonderful to collaborate with Rahman again. Subrata Roy's life is enigmatic and inspiring. Rahman is a wonderful artiste and musician and I look forward to this collaboration."

Producer Sandeep Singh announced the project last month after acquiring the rights to Roy's story. This is the latest biopic backed by Sandeep Singh after Mary Kom (2014), Sarbjit (2016) and PM Narendra Modi (2018).

About the project, Sandeep Singh said, "It gives me unbelievable joy to bring these legends of lyrics and music together for a project that is extremely close to my heart. I have been an ardent admirer of the work of AR Rahmanji and Gulzar saheb. Their contribution to cinema cannot be measured and I am humbled that they are a part of my project. Subrata Roy sir's life is a tremendous story of grit, determination and success and it needs the support of these two geniuses to realise this dream on 70mm. I am humbled and overwhelmed."

Subrata Roy, founder, managing director and chairman of the Sahara conglomerate, spanning finance, hotels, the media and real estate, was named by Time magazine in 2004 as the second largest employer in the country after the Indian Railways. The past few years, however, have seen Roy being pulled up by the Securities and Exchange Board of India and fall afoul of the Supreme Court and spend time behind bars.

The title and cast for the project has not been announced yet.
