Konkona Sensharma, who was seen recently in the critically acclaimed short Geeli Pucchi from the anthology Ajeeb Daastaans (2021), will next be seen playing a social service director at Bombay General Hospital. The fictional medical series takes place on 26 November 2008 when the city of Mumbai was under siege by terrorists.
Advani, who created the web-series, also directs a few episodes in the drama. Sensharma, along with Mohit Raina's character, is one of the main leads of the show.
The filmmaker recalled the time he went to the actress with the project. “I had offered her a choice between two roles," he said. "I told her that she can play Chitra Das or Mohit Raina’s wife Ananya Ghosh. She responded by saying she wants to read the script first. And finally she chose Chitra!”
Tina Desai ended up playing the character of Ananya Ghosh.
Advani went to say he was unsure whether Sensharma would agree to star in the series. “Konkona had put me in a bit of a bind because I wasn’t sure if she would say yes for this project,” he said. “So I was on cloud nine when she agreed. We had to make sure we live up to Konkona Sensharma, rather than her living up to the role. It was a wonderful experience having her on board."
Produced by Emmay Entertainment, Mumbai Diaries 26/11 is being premiered on Amazon Prime Video today.
