Akshay Kumar's mother, Aruna Bhatia, died early on Wednesday at Hiranandani Hospital in Mumbai. She had been admitted to the intensive care unit.
The actor posted an emotional message on social media, saying that he felt an unbearable pain at the core of his existence. "She was my core. And today I feel an unbearable pain at the very core of my existence. My maa Smt Aruna Bhatia peacefully left this world today morning and got reunited with my dad in the other world. I respect your prayers as I and my family go through this period. Om Shanti," he wrote.

The actor returned to Mumbai from the United Kingdom when his mother's health deteriorated. When rumours began to circulate, he put out a tweet asking his followers to pray for his mother.

The actor had been reportedly shooting for his upcoming film, Cinderella, in the UK.
