Director Raja Chanda will be directing Bengal Trinamool Congress MLA and former minister Madan Mitra’s biopic, starring Saswata Chatterjee.

Popular for his Facebook Live sessions and unapologetically colourful lifestyle, and his viral song 'Oh Lovely', Mitra leads a life no less than of a film star. The film will go on the floors before Durga Puja.

According to a report on the website ABPLive.com, Mitra had been receiving requests concerning a biopic for the past two years, but he was waiting for the results of the 2021 West Bengal legislative assembly election, in which he emerged victorious from the Kamarhati constituency. “Starting from my journey in the college elections to bringing [Argentinian football player Lionel] Messi, and the Brazil football team to Kolkata, all will be part of the journey depicted in the film; nothing should be hidden," Mitra said.

No stranger to controversy, the politician, who was then the West Bengal transport and sports minister, was arrested over alleged involvement in the Saradha Group financial scandal. He resigned from his post a year later. In 2017, he was also interrogated by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Narada sting operation.

“My life is an open book; every chapter would find its place in the biopic, including the Sarada-Narada phase," Mitra said.

He further mentioned that while his wife would be portrayed in the biopic, it would also depict his multiple female friends.
