Kangana Ranaut in Thalaivii

The song ‘Nain Bandhe Naino Se’ from the Hindi version of Thalaivii is set when the protagonist, the late film star-turned-politician J Jayalalithaa was a young actress. It is a song in which she is giving a dance performance in a packed auditorium. Although everyone’s eyes are fixed on her, she only craves attention from matinee idol MG Ramachandran (Arvind Swami).

It’s not a fast dance number though. This makes it even more challenging for the performer, who in this case is Kangana Ranaut. The actress’s graceful dance steps become the highlight of the song and ensure that you can’t but applaud her. The visuals win you over from the get-go when Ranaut and the background dancers perform a synchronized step.

Lyricist Irshad Kamil’s words do justice to the longing of Ranaut's character for her dream lover. Saindhavi Prakash’s vocals are deep. But her voice is such that it’s easy to make out that this is the Hindi version of a Tamil song. GV Prakash Kumar’s music adds to the rich feel.

Directed by Vijay, Thalaivii is a biopic of the late chief minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa. The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on 10 September. Watch the song below and let us know if you are keen to watch this movie.
