Mahesh Manjrekar’s Marathi film De Dhakka 2 will be released on 1 January 2022. The filmmaker shared the news on Facebook.
Produced by Amey Khopkar Entertainment, the film was earlier supposed to be released in December 2020 but was hampered by the pandemic.
The film is the sequel to the 2008 hit family comedy De Dhakka and it will feature the same cast as its predecessor: Shivaji Satam, Makarand Anaspure, Siddharth Jadhav and Medha Manjrekar.
While De Dhakka was directed by Sudesh Manjrekar and Atul Kale, the sequel will be helmed by brothers Sudesh and Mahesh Manjrekar.
De Dhakka was about the journey of a lower-class family, the Jadhavs, in an auto-rickshaw in a village. But, as per the poster of the sequel, the follow-up will take place in London where the family will be travelling in a cab. The poster also shows two Yeomen Warders, the ceremonial guardians of the Tower of London, pushing the car [hence, the title] and, more importantly, the back of the Queen of England.
Apart from De Dhakka 2, Manjrekar also has another Marathi movie, Panghrun, in the pipeline along with the Hindi movie Antim, which stars Aayush Sharma and Salman Khan.
