The Malayalam film Idam (Abode, 2019) will arrive on NeeStream on 4 September. The Malayalam-language film, written, directed and produced by Jaya Rose Raj, was premiered at the New York International Film Festival in 2019.
Starring Seema Biswas, Harish Perady, Anil Nedumangad, the drama follow a 70-year-old who gets the distressing news that her sons want to sell the ancestral property where she lives and divide the money. She tells her sons that she will remarry and won’t leave, but her callous children seem to have different ideas.
Idam revolves around the loneliness encountered by old age in modern society, especially women.
The first-time filmmaker, who graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India, had assisted director Rosshan Andrews on Notebook (2006).
Idam was shot in Thiruvananthapuram and was inspired by the filmmaker’s mother who decided to stay back at their ancestral home after her sons moved away.
Biswas, who has also worked in the Malayalam films Shanthan (2001) and Balyakalasakhi (2014) with Mammootty, won the Best Actress Award for her performance at the Ottawa India Film Festival in Canada in 2019.
