Filmmaker Kedar Shinde announced a biographical film on his grandfather Krishnarao Sable, the folk artiste popularly known as Shahir Sable, on the latter's 98th birth anniversary.
The film has been titled Maharashtra Shahir and will be released in 2023.
The filmmaker took to Facebook on Friday and wrote, "Today is 3 September, Maharashtra Shahir Sable's birthday. With immense respect for him, I'm announcing Maharashtra Shahir, Shahir Sable's biopic for the year 2023, birth centenary."
The short announcement video featured photographs from Sable's childhood and some of his popular songs.
Born in 1923, Sable was an accomplished singer, writer, playwright, performer, producer and director. He mostly wrote folk and devotional songs. Some of his most popular songs are 'Jezurichya Khanderaya', 'Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha', 'Athshe Khidkya Navshe Daara' and 'Navra Nako Ga Bai'. Sable also started a show titled Maharashtrachi Lokdhara, where the native dance forms of Maharashtra were showcased.
Shinde still hasn't announced who is going to play Sable in his film.
Meanwhile, the filmmaker's drama Baipan Bhari Deva is set to be released. The film was scheduled to hit the screens on 24 May but had to be postponed because of the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. The woman-oriented film, starring Rohini Hattangadi, Vandana Gupte, Sukanya Kulkarni, Shilpa Navalkar, Suchitra Bandekar and Deepa Chaudhari, tells the story of six sisters.
