Bipuljit Basu’s creative documentary Redlight To Limelight is the sole selection from India for the DOK Leipzig Co-Pro Market’2021, International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, Germany.
The festival is being held from 25–31 October this year.
The documentary tracks a group of sex workers and brothel youth who form a film production house named Camon in their brothel in Kalighat, Kolkata.
Despite the opposition to setting up the production house, they are determined to become film technicians and, in the process, become an independent force to resist prostitution in the second generation.
The team also aspires to turn the red-light area into a professional film colony.
An India-Estonia co-production, Redlight To Limelight is produced by Abhijit Dutta and Partha Barman and co-produced by Max Tuula and Maria Gavrilova of Marx Film, Estonia.
The 17th DOK Co-Pro Market is being held in a hybrid edition for the first time and features 35 projects from 36 countries. The project holders will meet potential co-producers, co-financiers, broadcasters, distributors and sales representatives in over 850 individual meetings.
