The film is centred on a paediatrician, Nirmali (Das), who is trapped in a loveless marriage and the mundane tasks of domesticity. Her joyless existence transforms with the entry of Sumon, a young student who is researching food habits and the use of various kinds of meats in the cuisine of the Northeastern part of the country.
Speaking to Cinestaan in August, Das, who is a classical dancer and practising dental surgeon, shed light on her character. "We all find ourselves in dark corners, in situations that we did not prepare for in life. Nirmali is such a character who faced things that she never thought she'd face. And things happened and she did not really deserve that in the first place. I somehow had the gut feeling that this was going to work," she said.
The goal is to do what you want to do, come what may, says cinematographer Riju Das
After the film's screening in Mumbai in 2019, Hazarika said that the idea behind the film had occurred to him as he happened to watch people eat at a KFC outlet in 2016-17. Expounding upon the themes of the film, he said, "It is about love and flesh. Romantic love is about the flesh. The initial idea was to see what happens to somebody who represses their desire for someone."
