The trailer for Parambrata Chatterjee’s upcoming film Bony (2021) offers glimpses of an ambitious science-fiction crime thriller in which the tussle to save a special child from the clutches of a racket involving artificial intelligence becomes real.
Starring Koel Mallick, Anjan Dutt, Kanchan Mullick and the director himself, Bony is based on Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay’s novel of the same name.
The trailer begins with visuals featuring Chatterjee and Mallick as a happy couple, engaged in romantic endeavours in the bright and sunny locations of Milan, Italy. The couple weave dreams with the anticipation of welcoming their baby; however, after the delivery the baby shocks the parents and becomes a matter of concern for its unusual abilities and appearance.
Dutt, who plays a US-born Bangladeshi scientist, intrudes into the couple's personal life with the intention of involving the baby in his experiments. Meanwhile, the worried parents are on edge, trying to save their child from several kidnap attempts in action-packed chase sequences. There are also suggestions of the baby surprising the attackers, and the parents, with its special powers in moments of serious danger.
Chatterjee’s acquaintance with Mullick’s character of an amateur scientist changes the course of the couple's struggle with the baby. Himu, the robot who causes strange developments in Mullick’s house, also brings hope of solving the mystery that has made the baby so many enemies.
The continuous struggle of the parents to save the baby that has only resulted in unsettling circumstances is palpable in the trailer. Though the special effects seem amateurish, the trailer holds out the promise of an exciting sci-fi thriller with a grand mounting.
Bony is slated for a theatrical release on 10 October. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
