Actor Vijay, who is on the verge of wrapping up work on his upcoming Tamil film Beast (2022), will be joining hands with filmmaker Vamshi Paidipally for the first time for his next project. The official announcement of the project, currently dubbed Thalapaathy 66, was made yesterday.
For months, rumours made the rounds that Vijay would be teaming up with the Telugu filmmaker. Multiple reports hinted that the project would be a Tamil-Telugu bilingual film. However, the makers have now clarified that the film will only be shot in Tamil.
The announcement was made through a statement. The project will mark Vamshi’s foray into Tamil filmdom.
“With immense pleasure and happiness, we at Sri Venkateshwara Creations announce our first ever Tamil film with Thalapathy Vijay. We are extremely excited about this much-anticipated project and could not have asked for a better beginning than being associated with Thalapathy Vijay. This will for sure be the proudest project for us," the statement from the production house read.
The statement also revealed that a top-notch technical team will be associated with the project. The other cast details are expected to be divulged soon.
Meanwhile, Vijay is looking forward to the release of Beast next. The film stars Pooja Hegde as the leading lady.
If the industry grapevine is anything to go by, Vijay plays a special agent in Beast. If everything goes as planned, the film will hit the screens next year during the Pongal festival.
Director Nelson rose to fame with his Tamil crime comedy Kolamaavu Kokila (2018), which featured Nayanthara in the role of a middle-class working woman forced into drug peddling. He is currently awaiting the release of Tamil action comedy Doctor, which stars Sivakarthikeyan.
Vijay was earlier seen on the big screen in the Tamil action drama Master (2021), in which he played a college professor with a drinking problem. The film, which grossed over Rs200 crore at the box office, saw him join hands with filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj for the first time.
Master hit the screens earlier this year for the Pongal festival. It was the first mainstream Tamil release since the pandemic struck the country.
