Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and Nitesh Tiwari may be the first husband-wife director duo to take charge of a single project together, at least in India. Their upcoming docu-series Break Point, set for release on Zee5 on 1 October, will look at the lives and times of India's greatest doubles pair in tennis, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi.
While both filmmakers have delved into sports — Nitesh with Dangal (2016) and Ashwiny with Panga (2020) — tennis is a new jurisdiction for them. However, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari shared a picture that reveals her quiet interest in the sport.
She wrote, "For my love for tennis, he kept his promise. Watched my favourite Roger Federer play in Wimbledon centre court. And few years later never imagined we would be co-directing our favourite world double champions. They say when you love something from the heart the universe finds a way to make it happen."
The picture dates back to the Wimbledon championship of 2019. While Iyer Tiwari looks happy to be at the tournament, Nitesh looks mildly disinterested.
At a recent interaction with the press, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi revealed that despite their fractious relationship, their bond will remain forever.
