Aindrita Ray and Pratik Gandhi in Bhavai

Keyur Seta

Time and again we hear Hindi film audiences complain that the latest songs lack the melodic quality that makes music timeless. But they will have no cause for complaint about the upcoming Bhavai (2021) with tracks like ‘Bansuri’.

The film sees Pratik Gandhi and Aindrita Ray play lovers and the song celebrates their newfound attraction. As the film is set in rural Gujarat in 1982, we see a simple, old-world love story, which is rarely seen today.

‘Bansuri’ is a song where the different departments come alive. Shabbir Ahmed’s music ensures that this romantic track also works as a foot-tapping dance number. His lyrics are rich with quaint turns of phrase.

The song is sung by four singers — Aaman Trikha, Swati Sharma, Karsan Sargathiya and Ikka — and all of them have risen to the occasion. It should be no surprise if this song gets played a lot during the Navratri festival this year.

The film sees Gandhi and Ray play theatre artistes who specialize in enacting the Ram Leela, the recreation of the ancient epic Ramayana. Gandhi's character plays the demon Raavan while the young woman plays Sita.

Directed by Hardik Gajjar and produced by Pen Movies, Bhavai will be released in theatres on 1 October. Watch the song below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
