Ultra Media and Entertainment Group has turned its attention towards the production of Marathi films.

The company has already declared its intention to back as many as 10 films in the language in the coming year and has set up a separate team to ensure clarity and direction in the project.

The vertical will see Ultra Media roll out films across genres with a focus on bringing newcomers to the fore and building an 'ecosystem of directors, artistes, producers, music directors' to enable that.

Sushilkumar Agrawal, managing director, Ultra Media & Entertainment Private Ltd, said, "Ultra, since 1986, has been at the forefront of producing and distributing interesting content worldwide. We have a customer-first perspective and a firm grip on audience preferences. Considering the contribution of Marathi cinema in the recent past and the audience response, we felt compelled to again be a part of the Marathi film industry.

"The audience is evolving and opting to view more content-centric Marathi films which appeal highly to today’s discerning viewers. This industry is going through an interesting phase and we would like to do our bit for the talented filmmakers and artistes to add a fresh perspective and churn some very interesting entertainment for the global audience."

Most of the films will be produced in-house by Ultra Media, but there will also be collaborations with other production houses for specific projects.
