In the teaser of Mandip Saha’s directorial debut, Iskabon, love blossoms on a battlefield. Starring Sourav Das, Sanju and Anamika Chakraborty, the period drama depicts the Maoist movement, which took place in the interiors of West Bengal. Amid the political turmoil, a love story takes place.
Between visuals of uprisings led by Satya (Das) in the wilds of Bengal, a conversation takes place between Golapi (Chakraborty), a member of Satya’s outfit, and Lt Colonel Shib Mukherjee (Sanju). Mukherjee attempts to woo Golapi but the latter scoffs at him for being a part of the system against which, she and her fellow revolutionaries are waging war.
The film, which was shot on the actual sites associated with the Maoist movement, seems to possess an air of authenticity. However, time will tell whether or not the story depicts the reality of the movement through an objective lens.
The release date of Iskabon is yet to be announced.
