Actor and filmmaker Satish Kaushik has bought the rights to the Malayalam movie Nirnnayakam (2015), which he will remake as the sequel to his last directorial venture Kaagaz (2021).

Starring Pankaj Tripathi, the film was about the struggle of a common man who was mistakenly declared dead by the government.

Sharing the news, Kaushik told the portal TimesofIndia.com, "I plan to title the remake Kaagaz 2. Like my last film, Kaagaz, which revolved around a pertinent social issue, the story of the National award-winning movie Nirnnayakam highlights an important social issue — human rights violation and the power of a common man to fight the system. I was moved by the thought and the concept of the film and decided to buy the rights to remake it."

Kaushik has already signed veteran actor Anupam Kher to play a pivotal character in the film. “There are two strong characters in the film along with a young couple. My friend Anupam Kher will be playing one of the roles. Anupam and I go back a long way. We met while we were studying at the National School of Drama in 1975 and we have been friends since. It is always great to share the stage or screen space with Anupam. We have worked together in several films, including Uttar Dakshin (1987) and Ram Lakhan (1989). Since our understanding as actors and friends is always in sync, I approached him for the remake of Nirnnayakam and I am glad he agreed."

Directed by VK Prakash, Nirnnayakam starred Asif Ali, Malavika Mohanan and Prem Prakash. The film revolved around Ajay (Asif), a student at National Defense Academy, who helps his advocate father in a case involving someone’s death.
