Filmmaker Shoji Sebastian's debut film, Piplantri (2021), on the issue of female foeticide in India is now out on Neestream.
The film has been shot entirely in Rajasthan and tells the story of a village of the same name that plants tree every time a girl child is born.
Shoji Sebastian’s feature zeroes in on a mother’s battle to save her newborn daughter. The Malayalam film is one of the few that explores the issue of female foeticide.
Piplantri features a host of new names like Suresh Velath, Rishi, Miyasree, Joshy Krishna, Rakesh Babu, Kavya and John Mathews. Produced under the banner of Zickamore International, Piplantri has been co-written by Shoji Sebastian and Shelly Joy. The film’s score has been composed by Shanty Antony Angamaly.
