The Punjabi film industry continues to inspire hope in the future of theatrical releases even with the 50% occupancy rule as audiences flock to theatres. According to figures released by the trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com, Yaar Anmulle Returns (2021) has earned over Rs1.50 crore nett in its first week, Chal Mera Putt 2 (2020), meanwhile, has reached the Rs15 crore nett mark domestically since its re-release this month.
Yaar Anmulle Returns, directed by Harry Bhatti, is the third film in the series after Yaar Annmulle (2011) and Yaar Annmulle 2 (2017). The comedy drama had a good weekend, earning close to a crore nett, and then managed a decent hold in the coming week, earning Rs1.58 crore nett.
Meanwhile, Chal Mera Putt 2, which was originally released in March 2020, has reached blockbuster status, going over the Rs15 crore nett mark domestically. The sequel had already earned Rs2.92 crore in March 2020, and has added another Rs12.35 crore to its collections, earning Rs1.88 crore in its fourth week in theatres to reach Rs15.27 crore.
Internationally, the film directed by Janjot Singh has become the highest grossing Punjabi film and the first to cross $4 million. Both films will have competition in the coming week as the much anticipated Qismat 2 (2021) starring Ammy Virk and Sargun Mehta is due to arrive on Friday.
