The first look of Rakul Preet Singh as Doctor Fatima from the upcoming campus comedy drama Doctor G (2022) features the actress in a simple avatar. Like her co-star Ayushmann Khurrana, Rakul Preet, too, dons the doctor’s white coat for the feature directed by Anubhuti Kashyap.

The two images of Dr Fatima show Rakul Preet in a simple Indian look. With hair pulled back in a ponytail, the actress wears little ornamentation except for earrings and a nose ring. The first image has her donning a white coat, like others on campus, while the second shows her wearing a modest salwar kameez.
The cast of the film, including Khurrana, Rakul Preet and Shefali Shah, all had to learn a lot of medical terminology and the basics of important surgical procedures. To make sure everything looked authentic, the producers arranged for medical experts to conduct special sessions with the cast to train them to behave as doctors would as preparation for their roles.
Writer-director Kashyap wanted to make sure the cast were comfortable in medical situations and handle the surgical equipment naturally while performing. The cast are likely playing gynaecologists in the film.
Rakul Preet said the shoot of Doctor G was an interesting experience for her. “Since I play a doctor, the mannerisms and actions needed to be precise,” she explained. “It was mandatory to learn important things related to the medical world to make it look real on screen. The journey of becoming Doctor Fatima was an amazing process which I will cherish forever.
“We wanted Fatima to look authentic,” she continued. “We did multiple look tests to get her look right. The idea was for her to look as close to real as possible and bring out the endearing quality of her character.
“By just wearing the doctor’s coat, you suddenly get a sense of responsibility even though I was only playing a character. While treating patients for scenes, one truly understands how much responsibility doctors have on their shoulders and how difficult their life is,” she added.
The script for Doctor G has been co-written by Kashyap, Sumit Saxena, Vishal Wagh and Saurabh Bharat. An extensive shooting schedule of the film was completed in Prayagraj (Allahabad), Uttar Pradesh, recently. The remainder of the feature is due to be completed by the end of September.
