The short film sees him star alongside his real-life spouse Bhamini Oza Gandhi.

Pratik Gandhi in Shimmy

After gaining popularity by playing the late stock broker Harshad Mehta in Hansal Mehta’s web-series Scam 1992, Pratik Gandhi is getting to play a variety of roles. After playing a rustic gambler in the Gujarati show Vitthal Teedi, he will be seen next as a rural actor in the Hindi movie Bhavai (2021).

But before that film comes out, the audience will seei him play a single parent in Sikhya Entertainment’s short film Shimmy. The film is being released today on Amazon miniTV, which is available on Amazon’s shopping app.

Shimmy will see Gandhi cast opposite real-life spouse Bhamini Oza Gandhi. The two characters have separated and their daughter Raima (Chahat Tewani) stays with the father. The film is about the struggle a single father goes through and the things he is required to do to ensure his daughter doesn’t miss her mother. Here, it means taking his daughter to a birthday party; something her mother did all these years.

Although the short film deals with a serious and emotional issue, the trailer gives an indication that it follows a light-hearted narrative. As expected from someone like Gandhi, he appears to be in character in the promo itself. Tewani also seems like a mature performer. Bhamini Oza Gandhi makes a fleeting appearance at the end.

Raima’s dance teacher in school repeatedly uses the word ‘shimmy’ while performing a certain step. The reason for naming the film Shimmy should be clear in the main film.

Shimmy is directed by Disha Noyonika Rindani. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to see the film.
