The historical film from the period of the rise of the Sikh empire is slated for release on 1 July next year.

Punjabi actor and singer Tarsem Jassar has announced his next film, Mastaney, based on a chapter in Sikh history.

The actor, who has been seen in the hugely successful films Rabb Da Radio (2017) and Rabb Da Radio 2 (2019), shared a poster for the film on Instagram.

The poster carries the line, 'An epic tale of lionhearted warriors from the rise of the Sikh empire'.

Historically, the Sikh empire was established under the rule of maharaja Ranjit Singh at the end of the eighteenth century. The film will take a chapter out of the pages of history and tell the story of the brave warriors from that era.

In his post accompanying the poster, Jassar called the film his dream project, one that the team had been working on for the past three years.

The film is written and directed by Sharan Art and produced by Manpreet Johal, Ashu Munish Sahni and Gurwinder Singh Dhillon.

The film is scheduled to hit theatres on 1 July 2022.
