Actor Prosenjit will appear in Anjan Kanjilal’s upcoming period film Saajghar, set in the pre-Independence era. While the actor hasn’t yet disclosed what his character in the film is going to be, the title suggests that Saajghar will deal with the cinema and theatre scenario in the colonial period.
Speaking to AnandaPlus, the entertainment supplement of Bengali daily Anandabazar Patrika, Prosenjit said the look he is going to get for the character in Saajghar will surprise the audience. He also said viewers will be easily able to relate with the storyline.
“I have known Anjan for a long time,” said the star who had read the story a while ago. “I instantly loved the concept, but due to the pandemic and other reasons, we couldn’t start shooting,” he said.
Kanjilal wrote the story 10 years ago and was determined to have Prosenjit in the film. “I was ready to delay the project to convince him to take up the role,” the writer-director said.
Saajghar will have three female leads. Actress Koneenica Banerjee will also play a crucial role.
Despite the need of a huge budget for period films, Kanjilal was ready to take the risk. “The audience should be able to enjoy the film in theatres and the film should have all the elements to attract the audience," he said. "The producer liked the screenplay and hence I could take the risk.”
Kanjilal will start shooting the film early next year. His debut film Sahobashe is awaiting release.
