After a poor collection of Rs4.75 crore nett in its first weekend, the Kangana Ranaut-starrer Thalaivii (2021) was expected to see a major drop on its first Monday and that is exactly what has happened.
Director AL Vijay’s movie made a meagre Rs65 lakh nett yesterday, according to BoxOfficeIndia.com. The film’s grand total currently stands at Rs5.40 crore against a budget of around Rs75 crore.
It needs to be remembered, however, that Thalaivii has not been released in Maharashtra, where theatres continue to be closed. Moreover, the film's Hindi version has been boycotted by multiplex chains PVR, Inox and Cinepolis.
Meanwhile, the new Punjabi movie Yaar Anmulle Returns (2021) has had a decent first weekend. The third film in the franchise, and directed by Harry Bhatti, it scored Rs94 lakh nett in the period.
The other Punjabi movie in theatres, Chal Mera Putt 2 (2020), continued its positive run even in its third weekend, making a collection of Rs1.18 crore nett. The film was first released in March 2020 but its run was scuttled by the COVID-19 pandemic. It had made Rs2.92 crore in that period. It was re-released on 27 August and made Rs6.76 crore in that week, following up with Rs3.71 crore in the next. Its grand total currently stands at an impressive Rs14.57 crore.
