Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri tasted success with The Tashkent Files (2019). He then started working on The Kashmir Files. Before that film sees the light of day, he has announced The Delhi Files, which will make this a trilogy. The third film will be a Hindi-Punjabi bilingual project.

The news was shared by trade analyst Taran Adarsh on Twitter. Along with Agnihotri, the film is produced by his wife and actress Pallavi Joshi, Abhishek Agarwal and Archana Agarwal.

Taran Adarsh also shared the first poster for the movie. Going by the image of a Sikh child silhouetted against the three-lions emblem of the Indian republic, the film seems to be based on the 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom following the assassination of prime minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards. But there is no official confirmation of this. The poster also spells out the film's tagline: Right To Live.

The Tashkent Files revolved around the sudden and mysterious death of India's second prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in the city in Uzbekistan, then a part of the Soviet Union. The Kashmir Files will be about the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley in the late 1980s.

The Delhi Files is slated for release in October 2022.
