The Disciple, Churuli, Koozhangal nominated at 15th Asian Film Awards


This year's ceremony will be held on 8 October at the Busan International Film Festival and be broadcast live online.

Chaitanya Tamhane’s The Disciple (2021), Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Churuli, and PS Vinothraj’s Koozhangal have all been nominated at the 15th Asian Film Awards.

This year's ceremony will be held on 8 October at the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea and be broadcast live online.

The Marathi film The Disciple, which made its debut online on Netflix on 30 April, is nominated for Best Film and Best Screenplay. Tamhane won the Best Screenplay award at the 77th Venice International Film Festival last year where the film had its world premiere.

Tamil filmmaker Vinothraj has been nominated for Best New Director for his first film Koozhangal. The drama, which was premiered at the 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam in February, has already won the Tiger award at the festival.

Meanwhile, Pellissery’s next Malayalam feature, starring Chemban Vinod Jose, has been nominated in the technical categories. Gokuldas has been nominated for Best Production Design while Renganaath Ravee has been nominated for Best Sound.

The Asian Film Awards was established in Hong Kong in 2007. South Korean filmmaker Lee Changdong will chair the jury this year.
