Families are complicated, and director Ajitpal Singh's next project, a web-series, tracks the journey of one such complex, fiery family.
Tabbar, featuring an ensemble cast of Pavan Malhotra, Supriya Pathak, Ranvir Shorey, Gagan Arora, Nupur Nagpal and Sahil Mehta, will be streamed on the SonyLIV OTT platform. Backed by JAR Pictures, the series appears to be a dramatic and fiery story.
The teaser for the series captures the intensity of its story from the first shot. A subdued Sargun (Pathak) sits nervously in the car as Pavan Malhotra's Omkar Singh sets about burning a corpse.
The visuals soon switch to shots of their two sons, who are just as shocked, and a family facing its secrets. The teaser also has a short, sudden look at Shorey, whose mysterious character seems to hold the key to the story.
Speaking about the series, Pathak said, “I have always worked with characters that tell a story and Sargun’s character tells a story of a strong woman who loves her family unconditionally. She may be a coy, demure middle-class woman, but when it comes to her family’s safety, she fights against all odds to protect them. Tabbar revolves around this beautiful family who support each other in times of trouble and how they survive the unknown by standing together."
Malhotra said, “Tabbar is all about family togetherness and I am grateful to [our] director for giving me Omkar Singh. It is great to be back on the SonyLIV platform playing characters that challenge me as an actor. And the makers of Tabbar have done a fabulous job by giving its viewers not just an amazing story, but also a brilliant cast to watch out for. I am looking forward to watching this series soon.”
Ajitpal Singh's previous directorial venture, Fire In The Mountains, has won critical acclaim at several film festivals.
