The Dharamshala International Film Festival (DIFF) has announced a collaboration with New Zealand's high commission in India in the form of IN–>NZ Indigenous Connections, which will be held from 13–19 September in a virtual format.
IN–>NZ Indigenous Connections is a curated line-up of three Indian films in tandem with three Maori films. Each film draws parallels between India's and New Zealand's indigenous communities, cultural relationships and family, as well as the fragility of our shared natural ecosystem. In addition to the screenings, the festival will host in-depth filmmaker conversations with Marten Rabarts of the New Zealand International Film Festival and veteran Indian editor Bina Paul.
Viewers will get free access to six films being showcased in the programme — Cousins, directed by Ainsley Gardiner and Briar Grace-Smith; Lady Of The Lake directed by Haobam Paban Kumar; Loimata, The Sweetest Tears directed by Anna Marbrook; Merata: How Mum Decolonized The Screen directed by Heperi Mita; My Name Is Salt directed by Farida Pacha and The Shepherdess Of The Glaciers directed by Stanzin Dorjai Gya and Christiane Mordelet. The three Indian films will also be available to audiences in New Zealand. The films will be streamed on online.diff.co.in.
The programme is part of the festival’s year-round DIFF Virtual Viewing Room.
