Richa Chadha reassured me before an important scene, says Candy actor Mikhael Kantroo

Theatre actor and writer Mikhael Kantroo, who garnered a lot of appreciation for his plays Do Raha and Giant, is now making his web-series debut with Voot Select's thriller Candy. Kantroo will be seen in a pivotal role alongside Richa Chadha, Ronit Roy, Manu Rishi Chadha and others.

Speaking about his character in the web-series, Kantroo said, "I'm essaying the character named Luka who is strong, silent and secretive. A man with his ear to the ground and as mysterious as the town of Rudrakund. He runs a club called Cube."

Set against the picturesque backdrop of a boarding school in the mountains, Candy is about a school teacher (Ronit Roy) and a cop (Richa Chadha) who team up to hunt down a killer.

Talking about the experience of working with his more experienced co-artistes, Kantroo said, "Mr Ronit Roy was good to me. The ease he has in front of the camera comes from experience. We all know Richa is such an instinctive actor and I had the pleasure of doing key scenes with her. I remember before an important scene she reassured me in her style, saying, “tu kar lega Luka [you will manage Luka]”. She would be kind to every technician on set, a quality I hope to emulate as an artiste and a human being.

For Kantroo, the most exciting part was to make this show with a team of committed people. "An actor needs a strong script and then a team that can execute it efficiently," he said. "No man’s an island and every artiste needs to be around a team with belief and vision."

Kantroo was also all praise for his director. "Ashish Shukla is a family man!" he said. "He’s my captain on set but off the set, he was like an elder brother. His unit is his family. His filmmaking is based on the values of honesty and commitment. He showed faith in me and in return I gave him as honest a performance as I could."
