Ayushmann Khurrana on Saturday revealed he is set to play the lead role in first-time director Anirudh Iyer's quirky action thriller film Action Hero. The film, which promises to be a genre-defying off-beat thriller, will feature an actor’s journey, in front of and behind the lens.
Khurrana posted a video on Twitter to announce the project. The motion graphic video also features a voice-over by the actor. From Khuraana's narration, it seems he plays an actor who is known for his action roles. But because of circumstances, he is forced to do in real life what he is known for doing in his reel life.
Dikkat Bas Ek Hi Hai, Mujhe Ladne Ki Acting Aati Hai, Ladna Nahin… Super excited for a genre-breaking collab ONCE AGAIN with @aanandlrai and #BhushanKumar! This one’s special! #ActionHero

Iyer previously worked as an assistant director on Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015).
This is Khurrana's third project with T-Series and Colour Yellow Productions after Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017) and Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan (2020). “I hope our track record to entertain audiences worldwide with disruptive scripts continues with Action Hero,” said Khurrana.
“Colour Yellow and T- Series are like a second home to me. I absolutely loved the script of Action Hero instantly. It’s zany, it’s fresh, it’s disruptive and it has all the trappings of cinema that I have come to be known for.” the actor added.
Speaking about the movie, producer Aanand L Rai, said, “While this is the first time that we are exploring this genre, it is the third time we will be collaborating with Ayushmann on a film. It’s always a pleasure working with him and I’m quite excited to have the film go on floors.”
“Ayushmann perfectly fits the bill of the eponymous Action Hero in this film,” said producer Bhushan Kumar, the head of T-Series. “We can’t wait for it to go on floors and see him live the character.”
The film will be shot in India and the UK. Khurrana also has a romantic drama titled Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui with Vaani Kapoor, Anubhav Sinha's Anek and Anubhuti Kashyap's social comedy Doctor G in the pipeline.
