Saptaswa Basu’s upcoming thriller Doctor Bakshi, a spin-off of his film Pratidwandi (2020) will be released on Eid next year. The director made the announcement by sharing a new poster of the film.
Starring Parambrata Chatterjee, Subhasree Ganguly, Bonny Sengupta and Maahi Kar, the film will see the titular character unravelling a murder mystery at a Bengali New Year festival.
Saswata Chatterjee, who made the character of Doctor Bakshi in Pratidwandi popular, was initially cast for the film. However, there were date issues, and the director thought that since the film was more about a different story of the character, there could be a fresh casting altogether and hence, got Parambrata on board. He will also be seen as a crucial character in Basu’s upcoming film Jatugriha.
In Doctor Bakshi, Ganguly plays vlogger Mrinalini, who attends a Bengali New Year celebration at a heritage hotel. Aditya (Sengupta), a criminal, who has recently been released from prison, also attends the festival \and a murder takes place. A classical dancer Shraddha (Kar) who has come to perform at the festival, also gets embroiled in the mystery. Eventually, Doctor Bakshi enters the scene and takes the charge of solving the puzzle.
The poster shows a baby inside an incubator in a clinical setup.
Doctor Bakshi will go on the floors in November.
