The date is set for Somnath Awghade's return to the silver screen after more than seven years. Free Hit Danka (2021), which sees him paired opposite Apurva S, will hit the theatres on 17 December.

Helmed by first-time director Sunil Magare, Free Hit Danka also stars Tanaji Galgunde, Arbaz Shaikh and Suresh Vishwakarma.

The film was earlier supposed to be released on 16 April but the arrival of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic scuttled that plan. Magare announced the new release date on Facebook by sharing a  poster for the film.

From the poster, it appears that the film revolves around a cricket tournament. In the foreground we see Awghade and Apurva looking at each other, hinting at a love story. In the background, Galgunde, Shaikh and Vishwakarma are seen holding a tennis ball, cricket bat and stumps.

Looking at their jerseys, Awghade, Shaikh and Galgunde's characters appear to be playing for the same team. Interestingly, all three actors made their debuts under Nagraj Manjule's direction in Fandry (2014). Shaikh and Galgunde also featured in Sairat (2016).

Free Hit Danka is about a group of youngsters and their unbreakable friendship. Magare has also written the story and screenplay for the film. The project is being produced by Magare, Akash Thombre and Meghnath Sorkhade.
