After 27 days in custody, superstar Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan was released on bail at 10am today from the Arthur Road jail in central Mumbai and received by his father.

Aryan Khan, along with model Munmun Dhamecha and his friend Arbaaz Merchant, were granted bail on Thursday by the Bombay high court in connection with the alleged drug bust on a cruise ship off the coast of Mumbai on 2 October.

Aryan, Dhamecha and Merchant were among eight people taken into custody during the raid by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). They were remanded in NCB custody till 7 August, following which they were directed into judicial custody.

Despite the bail order being pronounced on Thursday, with its terms and conditions arriving on Friday, counsel for Khan could not fulfil the requirements in time for the jail authorities to release the 23-year old. It is necessary for any bail order to be processed and produced to the jail authorities before 7pm for a release on the same day.

The bail orders were collected by the Arthur Road prison authorities early on Saturday morning, following which Khan was released.

Bail was granted by justice NW Sambre, who imposed 14 conditions. According to the legal news website LiveLaw.in, these include a personal bond for Rs1 lakh and Aryan having to surrender his passport so that he cannot go abroad without the court's permission. He also has to intimate the NCB before making any trip outside Mumbai and give it his entire itinerary. He is also expected to visit the NCB office every Friday between 11am and 2pm. There can be no contact between Aryan and the media or any statement from his side as long as he is on bail.

Actress Juhi Chawla, a close family friend and business associate of Shah Rukh Khan, stood surety for Aryan.

Speaking to the media outside the special NDPS court, where the surety bond was signed, Chawla spoke of a 'sense of relief'' in Khan's family.

Shah Rukh Khan left Mannat, his residence in Bandra (West), early in the day to pick his son up from the jail. Soon after the bail order was pronounced on Thursday, several in the industry shared a sense of releif with the star.

Following Aryan's release, his father took him straight home to Mannat.
