Annaatthe trailer: Rajinikanth oozes charisma as the lovable guardian of a town

Rajinikanth, who recently won the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, is at his fluid, funny and furious best in the Annaatthe trailer. With punchlines galore, action and a dash of brotherly love, the snippet has everything that a proper commercial film starring the legend ought to have. With a festive release planned for Diwali, everything seems to be in place for another Rajinikanth blockbuster.
The 72-year old actor looks the part as the president of a village committee. His life revolves around his sister (Keerthy Suresh) and possible love interest (Nayanthara). There is singing, dancing, celebrations and quite a few rollicking punchlines that promise an entertaining watch.
The switch comes with the appearance of Prakash Raj as the first of three villains, followed by Abhimanyu Singh and Jagapathy Babu. From the visuals, one can guess that Keerthy, who is being targeted by the baddies, ends up in Kolkata. Her only saviour is Rajinikanth, of course. Cue action sequences and heroics that are synonymous with the 'superstar' image of the actor. Throw in a pulsating soundtrack by D Imman, and you have something for the hardcore Rajni fans.
He might be a Dadasaheb Phalke awardee but the veteran still projects his macho, suave persona with elan. The wig and an ageing voice notwithstanding, Rajinikanth impresses with his vivacity. The impressive cast also looks promising.
The film, produced by Sun Pictures, features music by D Imman.
