Bunty Aur Babli 2 song 'Tattoo Waaliye': Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's Punjabi disco is hip and funky

The song, with mischievous lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya, has been sung by Neha Kakkar and Pardeep.

Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have come up again with a fun, bouncing number to kick off the sequel to Shaad Ali's hit film Bunty Aur Babli (2005).

The Punjabi number 'Tattoo Waaliye' catches the changed, upgraded tempo of the new generation with the style, pizzazz and a bit of charm from the past.

Starring Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Sharvari Wagh and Pankaj Tripathi, the film is set to be released in theatres on 19 November.

The song is upbeat in tempo and clearly aims to be a chartbuster. Pardeep's vocals are on point and will make you get on the dance floor. S-E-L's composition fits in with the theme of the song, with hip rhythms and a funky sound. The trouble, however, is that the composition does not stand out like the trio's works in their prime in the early 2000s. The techno-disco mix, the use of modified vocals, a bit of synthesizer rhythms to replace the traditional dhol-tasha are familiar techniques now.

Pardeep Sran's vocals are a highlight and capture the mischief and flirtatiousness in Amitabh Bhattacharya's lyrics. The singer has a nice vocal range which rises above the composition to leave its mark. Neha Kakkar takes on the female vocals and does enough to add some flavour and funk to the composition.

The choregraphy does leave a lot to be desired, with Saif Ali Khan looking visibly uncomfortable with the dance moves. Maybe the actor is a little past the dancing routine. Rani Mukerji tries hard to be the glamour queen, and is matched by the snap of Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari Wagh's moves. The production set looks like a mix between Rishi Kapoor's Karz (1980) and the Jackson 5 theme. It definitely is impressive.

Bunty Aur Babli 2 is produced by Yash Raj Films and will be released in theatres on 19 November. Watch the song 'Tattoo Waaliye' below and let us know if you are keen to watch this film.
