Hindi films such as Why Cheat India (2019) and Setters (2019) have shed light on improprieties in the education system and examinations. SonyLIV’s latest show The Whistleblower, however, appears to explore the subject in a deeper manner.
The web-series seems to be inspired by the infamous Vyapam scam, which took place in Madhya Pradesh and came to light in 2013. The story of The Whistleblower also starts off in the same year.
The makers have skilfully concealed the main story, which is a welcome break at a time when promos reveal almost everything. We are shown a beaten and bruised young man [Ritwik Bhowmik] all set to expose a scam. He is encouraged by Sonali Kulkarni’s character, who might be a journalist or social worker.
The trailer depicts how examinations are often fixed. And just like the Vyapam scam, several of the key players mysteriously start dying.
We are given a glimpse of actor Hemant Kher, whose last show Scam 1992 co-incidentally was also based on a scam. The web-series also stars Ravi Kishan, Sachin Khedekar and Ankita Sharma.
Created and written by Ajay Monga, The Whistleblower has been directed by Manoj Pillai.
Check out the trailer and let us know if you are keen on watching the show.
