Arshad Warsi to be seen in rough-and-tough avatar in Banda Singh

The film, which is said to be based on true events, will see Meher Vij playing his wife.

Arshad Warsi has a penchant for comedies, but the actor has also proved his mettle with serious subjects in films like Sehar (2005) and Jolly LLB (2013) and the recent web-series Asur (2020). The actor will now be seen playing the lead in another serious role in and as Banda Singh.

The first poster for the film reveals that Warsi plays a sardar. He is seen carrying two weapons with an expression that suggests he is all set to fight. The poster also features Meher Vij as his wife and offers a sneak peek at their little daughter.

The makers have said the film is set in North India and based on true events. The film is the next project of Phullu (2017) director Abhishek Saxena. It is being produced by Manish Mishra and co-produced by Saxena himself.

Explaining why he signed up for the film, Warsi said in a statement, “I fell in love with the script, I am sure you all will fall in love with the film.”

Meher Vij added, “This script is very close to my heart. I am blessed that I have been considered to play this brilliant role and working with the super talented Arshad Warsi is a cherry on the cake.”

Saxena added, “I have been looking for a script like this to direct for a long time as my earlier films too, Phullu and Saroj Ka Rishta [which is yet to be released], were on social issues, but Banda Singh is about survival. I am quite thrilled to go on the floors and roll the film with Arshad, Meher and the rest of the cast.”

The story has been written by Shaheen Iqbal, who had also written Phullu. “After Phullu, I and Abhishek have teamed up again for Banda Singh which is based on true events," the writer said. "I feel this untold story needs to be talked about.”

Banda Singh will go on the floors in mid-November.
