It is nice to see actors play characters their own age and laugh at themselves. Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji do just that as they play ex-cons forced to return to the game in the trailer of Bunty Aur Babli 2.
Former con artists Rakesh and Vimmi Trivedi (Saif and Mukerji), a middle-aged middle-class couple, are living a quiet, legitimate life. This ends when Pankaj Tripathi's sassy cop character picks them up after a crime spree is committed in their name. Apparently, the next generation of crooks, played Sharvari Wagh and Siddhant Chaturvedi, have picked up their mantle.
With their reputation at stake, the infamous older couple decides to track down the youngsters and teach them a trick or two.
The trailer is quirky, fun, and colourful. Saif and Mukerji look on point as the old ex-cons who have been out of the game for far too long. On the other hand, Chaturvedi and Wagh are quite sharp looking. Throw in the lively Tripathi whose easy presence livens up any story, and you have a film that just might match up to the original.
While the mischief of Abhishek Bachchan is missed, it will be interesting to see if the two couples recreate the magic that was the original Bunty Aur Babli (2005).
Directed by Varun V Sharma, the film will be released in theatres on 19 November.
