The upcoming anthology series Tryst With Destiny (2021), directed by Prashant Nair, sets up some compelling stories headlined by a terrific cast.
The SonyLIV web-series is named after Jawaharlal Nehru’s famous speech in 1947, on the eve of India’s Independence. It looks at how far we have come since then and how much things have remained the same.
The gritty trailer, which lays the foundation for these four different stories, shows the stark socio-economic inequalities in Indian society, from a top businessman played by Ashish Vidyarthi to a rickshaw puller played by Vineet Kumar Singh.
Nair’s stories will explore pertinent issues like greed, colour, revenge and caste which still plague Indian society today. According to the makers, each chapter tells the story of an individual in contemporary India and his or her struggle to be what destiny intended them to be.
Also starring Palomi Ghosh, Jaideep Ahlawat, Kani Kusruti, Amit Sial, Ishwak Singh, Lilette Dubey, Victor Banerjee, Geetanjali Thapa and Suhasini Maniratnam, Tryst With Destiny was originally premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in March 2020 where it won the Best Screenplay award.
Co-produced by Manish Mundra’s Drishyam Films and French studio Backup Media, the web-series is due to be released on SonyLIV on 5 November. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you plan to see the series.
