Composer Amitraj beautifully combines a simple Maharashtrian folk tune with western instrumentation for the title song of the upcoming Marathi movie Jhimma.
The song begins as a ditty that is typically sung by women but Amitraj gives it a modern twist by turning it into a rock song. The dholki is replaced by the drums and guitar. The use of shehnai is also quite brilliant.
The song features vocals by Vaishali Samant, Mugdha Karhade and Aarti Kelkar. All three singers are perfect and very lively. Kshitij Patwardhan's lyrics express the newfound confidence of the female characters as they explore London.
The visuals of the song feature Nirmiti Sawant, Sonalee Kulkarni, Suchitra Bandekar, Kshitee Jog, Siddharth Chandekar, Sayali Sanjeev and Mrinmayee Godbole, as they explore the new city with their guide, played by Siddharth Chandekar.
From bargaining in Marathi to visiting a pub for the first time, the song is a montage of their various activities in the United Kingdom.
Jhimma has been directed by Hemant Dhome and is slated to be released in theatres on 19 November.
