Emraan Hashmi and the paranormal always make for a good watch. The actor has made several forays into the commercial horror genre with Raaz (2009), Raaz 3 (2012), Ek Thi Daayan (2013) and Raaz Reboot (2016). Not all these films worked, but his return to the genre with Dybbuk looks positive.

A remake of the Malayalam film Ezra (2017), the trailer of the film sees Emraan Hashmi and Nikita Dutta play a troubled couple. Dutta's character, Mahi, discovers an antique wine box with strange markings. Unfortunately for her, the box contains a dybbuk, a malicious spirit that possesses people, according to Jewish mythology. With the entity now on the loose, blood will be spilt.

The trailer hints at the story without revealing spoilers. The thrill lies in the treatment, and it is not disappointing. Hashmi leads an intriguing cast comprising Manav Kaul and Arif Zakaria. The visuals, background score and folklore pique one's interest.

The film has been directed by Jay K, who also directed Ezra, and is set to be released on Amazon Prime on 29 October.
