Veteran actor Ranjit Mallick is set to return to the silver screen after three years in Premendu Bikash Chaki’s upcoming film Love Marriage. Also starring Aparajita Adhya, Ankush Hazra and Oindrila Sen, Love Marriage is Chaki’s second foray into comedy after Honeymoon (2018).

The actor started shooting for the film yesterday, and a motion poster was released online to announce the commencement of filming.

Speaking to Onno Somoy, the entertainment supplement of the Bengali daily Ei Samay, Mallick said, “I have rejected thrice the number of films I have done. I cannot relate to the stories these days. But this is a comedy film and people will be able to laugh their heart out while watching the film, as they did while watching Honeymoon. That’s why I am doing the film.”

Speaking of the not-so-bright days of Bengali cinema, Mallick said, "There is no doubt that Bengali cinema is going through tough days. Due to corona, the environment is gloomy across the globe,” said the actor, who made his debut with Mrinal Sen’s Interview (1971). “I feel films now should either educate or entertain. I have thought about it and realized that it is important for films to be entertaining," he said.

Mallick had reportedly thought of retiring from cinema entirely. "There are a lot of other things to do, and I was building my interest in that direction. I was reading books and spending time with my close ones. However, I have also been receiving requests to appear on screen at least once in two years,” he said.
